Graphic Novels & Comics Round Table announces 2023 Best Graphic Novels for Adults Reading List titles

ALA’s Graphic Novels & Comics Round Table (GNCRT) is thrilled to announce the 2023 Best Graphic Novels for Adults (BGNA) Reading List. This reading list highlights the best graphic novels for adults published in late 2022 through 2023, and it aims to increase awareness of the graphic novel medium, raise voices of diverse comics creators, and aid library staff in the development of graphic novel collections.

Submit a Nomination for the Core/OCLC Margaret Mann Citation for Cataloging and Classification

ALA's Rainbow Round Table releases Top 10 List

CHICAGO - The Over the Rainbow Committee of ALA’s Rainbow Round Table considered more than 400 books across all genres, including memoir, history, true crime, mystery, romance, fiction, poetryand more. The final 10 selections showcased a wide range of queer stories and experiences, working to dispel, one book at a time, the single narrative.

American Library Association announces 2024 Youth Media Award winners

BALTIMORE — The American Library Association (ALA) today announced the top books, digital media, video and audio books for children and young adults – including the Caldecott, Coretta Scott King, Newbery and Printz awards – at its LibLearnX: The Library Learning Experience held Jan. 19-22 in Baltimore.

BALTIMORE — The American Library Association (ALA) selects “The Berry Pickers,” by Amanda Peters, published by Catapult, as the winner of the 2024 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction, and "We Were Once a Family: A Story of Love, Death, and Child Removal in America," by Roxanna Asgarian, published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux, as the winner of the 2024 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction. The selections were announced at the Reference and User Services Association's Book and Media Awards (BMAs) event, sponsored by

Ashley Mitchell Named a 2024 Core Emerging Leader

Mitchell serves as Adult Services Librarian at Camden County Library System in Voorhees, NJ. She has over 20 years of library experience in various departments. She recently chaired the New Jersey Library Association’s Equity & Mentorship Task Force, completed their Emerging Leaders program, and led her library’s Diversity & Inclusion Team.

Alison Van Norman Named a 2024 Core Emerging Leader

CHICAGO—Core: Leadership, Infrastructure, Futures is pleased to announce that Alison Van Norman has been selected as a Core Emerging Leader (EL). Van Norman serves as the Outreach and Marketing Librarian for Elon University, where she plans and markets library events and programs and acts as liaison to the Art, Music, and Performing Arts departments. She enjoys creating low-stress environments for students, helping them familiarize themselves with library spaces and staff, and then seeing them return to study and engage in programs. She received her MLIS from UNC-Greensboro.

Carrie McClain Named a 2024 Core Emerging Leader

CHICAGO—Core: Leadership, Infrastructure, Futures is pleased to announce that Carrie McClain has been selected as a Core Emerging Leader (EL). McClain serves as the Chief Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Officer for Tulsa City-County Library, where she works cross-departmentally to envision and implement their equity, diversity and inclusion strategy. She is a member of their executive leadership team and enjoys running staff workshops. She possesses a Masters in Human Relations, has worked in ED&I roles since 2016, and joined the library field in 2022.

Joseph W. Lippincott Award Accepting Nominations

The American Library Association is accepting nominations for the Joseph W. Lippincott Award.  This award recognizes a librarian for he/she/they distinguished service to the profession of librarianship.  The service may include outstanding participation in the activities of ALA, notable published professional writing, or other significant activity on behalf of the profession and its aims.

This annual award consists of $1,500 and a 24k gold-framed citation.
